Building off the announcement earlier this year to switch to paper packaging for indoor fiber optic cable assemblies, the decision to expand this project to cover plug-type attenuators will replace over 40,000 plastic bags this year alone, with potential reductions of more than 1 million in the coming years.
“This expansion represents another step in our company-wide journey to drive sustainability in our operations and products,” said HUBER+SUHNER Head of Global Sustainability Lana Ollier. “In an industry still reliant on single-use plastic, our initiatives reflect our overall commitment to sustainability to help fulfil our customers’ growing demand for sustainable solutions.”
The recyclable paper packaging applies to the HUBER+SUHNER LC, SC, FC, ST and MU families. These high-performance fiber optic attenuators are designed for durability and reliability in various demanding applications, from industrial to military environments.
By shifting from plastic bags to recyclable materials, HUBER+SUHNER reinforces its commitment to minimising environmental impact, and reducing both waste and packaging emissions. This addition builds upon the company’s previously launched environmental-friendly packaging for indoor fiber optic cable assemblies, in line with its continuous efforts to meet customer demand for greener solutions.
Going forward, HUBER+SUHNER will also see additional product lines, including indoor fiber optic cable systems and harsh environment fiber optic cable assemblies. Details on these changes will be announced in due course.
