HUBER+SUHNER plans expansion investment and concentration of cable production in Pfäffikon

Ad Hoc announcement pursuant to Art. 53 LR
22.06.2018 - 6:45 (CET)

HUBER+SUHNER takes a further step towards increasing competitiveness in the Low Frequency technology segment and plans to expand its existing production capacities in the industrial area in Pfäffikon ZH.

As part of the long-term strategic orientation of HUBER+SUHNER at the Pfäffikon location, a large part of its industrial activities are already taking place in the Witzberg industrial area, where the modern mixing plant, which opened in 2011, and the central distribution warehouse, where operation commenced in 2014, are already located on the company's own premises alongside the fully utilized cable plant.

With the planned expansion at the Witzberg plant, the production capacities still at the "Dorf" site are to be relocated from there to the industrial area and integrated. The headquarters with the central functions will remain at the current location at Tumbelenstrasse 20.

Planning and implementation will take around two and a half years. The entire expansion investment in Witzberg is scheduled to go into operation in 2021.

This investment in the low double-digit million range is a clear commitment to the HUBER+SUHNER development and production site in Pfäffikon and a signal in favour of a strong Swiss manufacturing base. The basis for this is the good demand for high-tech solutions for the railway market and for automotive in the field of electric mobility. Both markets offer the company great potential for differentiation. As a result, HUBER+SUHNER expects a further increase in competitiveness for these solutions.

The concentration of production capacities at one location enables further increases in efficiency, reduces structural costs and complexity in the organisation and creates favourable conditions for better cushioning fluctuations in demand.

The Tumbelen Nord site of around 24,500 m2, which becomes available after the relocation of production capacities and is no longer required for operations, is to be put to a new use.
